Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
This is what I would do immediately. Desperate times need to act fast. Stick him as a centre back to partner Oggy. Kouyate did very well there when he played several games before for us at CB. He has played there before he came to us.

Collins, Reid and Noble should be given an extended rest.

This would give an opportunity to stick two defensive midfielders in Obiang and Nordveilt to sit in front of the defence and protect them, they need it and we need to tighten up and start keeping some clean sheets.

that's the pairing I picked on the Team v WBA thread. even young Reece would be an improvement. it'd take some bottle putting in a youngster but can he defend any worse than the current Collins?

Yes playing an out of form midfielder out of position will solve it won't it? You pair of retards.

Re: Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
The only problem with Kouyate as a centre back is that he hasn't made a tackle all season! Maybe just throw Oxford in, he can't be any worse. Was Reid injured today?

Kouyate was played as a centre back for a whole season at Anderlecht including champions league.

Was also excellent for us when playing there.

Not sure he should be moved there though.

Agreed Mike, been thinking this since Watford debacle.

Still think Oxford is being overhyped, a good prospect but miles from being ready.

Fernandes on the other hand

With 16 total tackles he's joint 12th in the league this season (Musuaku is 6th!).

I agree Kouyate is a better centre-back than midfielder long-term. But it needs to be planned for - I could see Bilic completely losing the dressing room if he starts dropping senior centre-backs for a midfielder at this stage.

That is the reason why I would play him at centre back and that he would be much better than Collins and Reid at it imho. Also provides the option of Obiang and Nordveilt to come in to protect the defence.

Vexed it's easy to through insults, try thinking before you open your gob and say something constructive you no nothing spastic.

Re: Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
Alex V, it will take balls to do it. Sadly Bilic hasn't got the balls and that's why he will bring Reid in for Collins next game and so it will go on....

Put that way hard to argue, Collins and Reid look shot..

Maybe we could play Tomkins or Burke there....

I stand corrected. It just looks like he is meandering about most of the time. He is starting to remind me of Diame!

Re: Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
We should of brought in a new CB when Tomkins went. Burke looks a very good prospect still young and needs more experience could do with a season in the championship under his belt.

Bilic needs to act very quickly and decisively, not develop Ostrich Syndrome otherwise we could go into free fall.

Re: Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
Don't agree that we needed a new centre-back. What needed to be done was to develop Burke and/or Oxford to figure as an option this season. It wasn't done properly (or at all really), and now the pressure's probably too great to do it.

Re: Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
If much rather Oxford than kouyate. We need kouyate in the midfield today. I actually thought lanzini done okay when noble was subbed.

Even so, the first and fourth had nothing to do with the center backs. Third was a bit of a fluke. Oggy gifted them possession on the edge of box on the second. Collins didn't cover himself in glory but it wouldn't surprise me to see him continue there.

Re: Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
Collins had arguably the best season of his career last season, an indian summer of a season and considering Ginge is now 33 it was madness to sell Tomkins and not replave him

Re: Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
Reid and Ogbonna are by far our best pairing. If we actually start with these two (would be helpful) we might stand a chance. If we still concede then we ain't protecting them well enough at full back or in midfield. Knee jerk idiot ideas like this are not the answer.

Idiot team selection and idiot transfer business are to blame for the current diabolical form, shoving players in unfamiliar positions will only fuck things up further.

Fucking idiots.

Change of Keeper would help as well

I'm not saying don't try it but I think the last time Kouyate played there, we conceded 4 goals at WBA.

Didn't he play there at home to Man U? Scored as well IIRC.

Re: Kouyate and Ogbonna as new Centre Back pairing
The Oxford/Burke talk is getting boring now, how long do you talk about prospects for? How's Burke doing at Wigan?

Ref Kouyate, I tink he is too lumbersome and slow on the turn at this level to play CB, could imagine him getting caught flat footed a lot. Only my opinion though.
